Abstract: 1337764 Titanium trichloride SOLVAY ET CIE 19 April 1971 [26 March 1970 29 June 1970 30 July 1970 3 Aug 1970] 25401/71 Heading C1A [Also in Division C3] Titanium trichloride is transformed from the brown (beta) to violet (gamma or delta) form by contacting with TiCl 4 at or below 100 C. The trichloride may be the cocrystallized form with AlCl 3 , obtained by organoaluminium reduction of TiCl 4 . The TiCl 4 is used in the liquid, undiluted form. The TiCl 3 may be supported. The product is used in preparing Zeigher-Natta polymerization catalysts (see Division C3).

They have a specific surface greater than 75 m2/g.
