Abstract: In the production of aerogels and/or xerogels based on inorganic or organic gels by mixing a gel precursor (I) with an organic solvent, hydrolysis and converting the resultant gel into an aerogel or xerogel with carbon dioxide (CO2) under super-critical conditions, (I) is treated with an aprotic solvent (II) which is soluble in CO2.
