Abstract: An audiometric screening apparatus (10) and associated method provides fast, low-cost, noninvasive screening of a subject's hearing. The apparatus includes a signal processor (16, 54) for generating a stimulus signal and a probe (18, 56) electrically coupled to the signal processor and insertible in a subject's ear. The probe (18, 56) includes a transmitter (20, 58) to transmit the stimulus signal into the ear and a receiver (20, 60) for receiving a first response signal from the subject's ear. An electrode (24), electrically coupled to the signal processor (16, 54), is attached to the subject's scalp for sensing a second response signal. The signal processor (16, 54) processes the first response signal to provide an evoked otoacoustic emission signal and processes the second response signal to provide an auditory evoked potential signal.
