Abstract: In an astable multivibrator circuit comprising first and second active elements, for example, each constituted by a transistor having base, collector and emitter electrodes, sources of relatively high and low potential respectively connected to the collector electrodes and to the emitter electrodes of said first and second transistors, a first capacitor connecting the collector electrode of said first transistor to the base electrode of said second transistor and a second capacitor connecting the collector electrode of said second transistor to the base electrode of said first transistor for normally causing said first and second transistors to alternatively and reciprocally conduct current in the respective collector-emitter paths thereof, and a signal output terminal connected with the collector electrode of at least one of said first and second transistors for providing an output signal in dependence on the conducting of currents in said collector-emitter paths; malfunction production is afforded by a current detector, for example, constituted by a resistor interposed between the low potential source and the emitter electrodes of said first and second transistors, for conducting a current which, at any time, is the total of the currents conducted through the collectoremitter paths of said first and second transistors, a third transistor having base, collector and emitter electrodes, the base electrode of said third transistor receiving a potential which varies with the magnitude of the current conducted by the resistor, and the collector and emitter electrodes of the third transistor are respectively connected with the base electrode of the other of said first and second transistors and with the low potential source, so that the third transistor is operative to render the collector-emitter path of said other transistor nonconductive when the current conducted by the resistor exceeds a predetermined value either by reason of the first and second transistors being accidentally in their conductive state simultaneously, or by reason of the difference between the high and low potentials being excessive.

Abstract: 1427065 Protective arrangements; D.C.- D.C. converting SONY CORP 11 April 1973 [14 April 1972] 17314/73 Headings H2K and H1F A power supply circuit for an electronic load 13 has a fuse 2 or a circuit-breaker connected in series with a voltage regulating device, e.g. a transistor 3, between input and output terminals 1, 7, a control transistor 10 for the regulating device and a transistor 14 controlling a protective circuit being connected to a common voltage detecting device, e.g. potentiometer 11. As shown the transistor 10 responds to the voltage at the tapping 11a on the potentiometer to control the transistor 3 through a pulse width modulating circuit 12 or directly, Fig. 3 (not shown). In the event of over voltage due to failure of a component, the transistor 14 conducts to cause a silicon controlled rectifier 16 to conduct sufficient current to blow the fuse 2. In a further arrangement, Fig. 2 (not shown), in which the load is the horizontal output circuit of a TV receiver, the transistor 14 conducts to render a gate controlled switch (25) in that output circuit continuously conducting to increase the load current to blow the fuse 2. In this arrangement the transistor 3 is controlled by a pulse-width modulating circuit 12 supplied from a fly-back transformer (30) in the load circuit so that when the supply is first turned on, no voltage is available for turning on transistor 3. A capacitor (37) is therefore connected between the load side of fuse 2 and the circuit 12 to produce a starting pulse.
