The electronic watermark information and the CGMS information superposed on the accepted information signal are detected by a WM decoding part 38, A CGMS decoding part 37 and these detected outputs are supplied to a control part 30, which when the electronic watermark information indicates a state in which any more duplication other then this time is inhibited and the CGMS information indicates a state in which the duplication of one time is possible, the device executes the duplicating of the information signal based on the CGMS information.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To superimpose the additional information on a video signal at a high level as much as possible and without affecting the video signal given to a reproduced image by detecting an edge of the video signal and superimposing the additional information on the video signal with a higher superimposition level set at the detected edge part than other parts of the video signal. SOLUTION: The edge detection output is supplied to a superimposition level control part 22 from an edge detection part 21. The part 21 detects the edge of an analog signal sent from a D/A converter 19. When this edge detection is performed at the part 21 by the primary differentiation, the edge detection output functions to raise the superimposition level of the additional information at both sides of a relevant segment. At the edge part of a video signal, the pixel level has a big change and accordingly a higher superimposition level of the additional information set at this edge part than other parts is not conspicuous on a reproduced image. Therefore, the additional information can be easily detected.

SOLUTION: The spread spectrum(SS) signal obtained at an SS duplication prevention control signal generation part 22 is controlled at a superimposition level control part 23 so as to secure a fixed superimposition pattern in each block BL. Then the SS signal is supplied to an addition part 12 and added to and subtracted from a video signal Vi to be superimposed on the signal Vi. Thus, the conspicuousness of superimposition levels can be reduced in every block owing to such superposition pattern. Thereby, the conspicuousness of the superimposition pattern can be reduced as much as possible for a reproduced image when the additional information of a minute level is superimposed on the video signal every plural pixels. In addition, the additional information can be easily detected.
