Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize good head characteristics by reducing the volume of a magnetic body while solving the problems of the mechanical strength of the magnetic head, compatibility with conventional products and the like, and to prevent reduction or the like in production efficiency therefor.
SOLUTION: In the magnetic head formed by fitting a pair of magnetic core halves 1 to each other through a nonmagnetic gap 2, and provided with a sliding surface 5 with a magnetic recording medium in which the nonmagnetic gap 2 and one end surface of the magnetic core half 1 are exposed, a nonmagnetic part 8 formed by pouring a molten low-melting point glass material thereinto is disposed not on one end surface of the magnetic core half 1 on the sliding surface 5 but on the end side of the sliding surface 5.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a magnetic head in which a high precision track width regulating groove is efficiently cut and in which high reliability and improved input/output characteristics are realized. SOLUTION: This method is applied to a magnetic head 1 where metallic magnetic films 5, 6 are formed on the gap-constituting faces of core halves 2, 3 and track width regulating grooves 9, 10 constituting, a projected magnetic tape working face 11 corresponding to a recording track width are prepared by cutting/machining on a magnetic tape sliding face 8 by means of a grinding stone 50. In the cutting/machining of the track width regulating grooves 9, 10, the grinding stone 50 is used for which a shaping process is performed on the side face 52 after another shaping process is performed on the outer circumferential face by supplying an abrasive grain liquid 55 in which powder abrasive grain is dissolved.

Not on one end surface of the magnetic core half 1 on the sliding surface 5, but on the end side of the sliding surface 5, a nonmagnetic part 8 filled with a glass material is disposed.
