A controller 6 sets an initial focus value at a point where the evaluation function is minimal. The initial focus value is set in a servo circuit 7. The controller 6 sets an observation point deviating from the point at which it has set the initial focus value. The controller 6 corrects the initial focus value set in the servo circuit 7.

Abstract: An optical disk apparatus for sequentially recording desired data per unit of a predetermined data quantity in response to an input command. The apparatus comprises an input means (3) for inputting the command and the data (51), a recording means for recording the data on an optical disk (2), and a control means (9) for controlling the operation of the input means (3) and the recording means (4) in response to the command, wherein the control means accepts the data quantity permissible for slipping correspondingly to a record command and then executes a slipping process within a range of such data quantity. In this apparatus, the control means (9) executes the slipping process on the basis of the result of monitoring a tracking error signal or a focus error signal. The apparatus is capable of exactly recording high transfer rate date, such as video data, in real time with certainty by a simplified structure.

Abstract: Disk producing apparatus comprises: a disk driving unit (2, 3) for rotating a disk (4); a pickup (5) having a first guide portion (8, 9) provided on one side portion and a guide face (10) provided on the other side portion; a base member (1) having a guide member (11) for receiving the guide face (10), the guide member (11) having a length shorter than the sliding distance of the pickup (5) in the guiding direction; a driving unit (13, 14, 15, 16) for driving the pickup (5) in the radial direction of the disk (4); and a signal processing unit for applying a specified processing to a signal reproduced from the pickup (5). Preferably, the first guide portion comprises: a guide shaft (8) supported on the base; and a guide bearing (9, 9) provided on the one side portion of the pickup (5) in such a manner as to be slidably inserted around the guide shaft (8). Such apparatus can be capable of improving the feeding accuracy of the pickup (5), reducing the cost of a feeding portion of the pickup (5), and realizing a small-sized skew adjustment mechanism at low cost.
