Abstract: A SDMI-compliant portable medium and a non-SDMI-compliant portable medium can be selectively connected to a licensed compliant module. When transferring copyright-protected encrypted content data from the licensed compliant module, whether the destination of transfer is the SDMI-compliant portable medium or the non-SDMI-compliant medium is determined (DP1). When the destination is found to be the SDMI-compliant portable medium, the number of times the encrypted content data can be transferred is restricted. When the destination is found to be the non-SDMI-compliant portable medium (DP6), the return (or check-in) of the encrypted content data from the non-SDMI-compliant portable medium to the licensed compliant module is disabled.

Abstract: It is an object to provide an efficient transfer of content data. In a case of transferring the content data from a data transfer device on a primary recording medium side to a data recording device to record the content data in a secondary recording medium, a data compression system and a bit rate that are conformable to the data recording device are compared with a data compression system and a bit rate of the content data to be sent, so that a required transfer processing is brought into realization according to a result of the comparison. For instance, when both the data compression systems are equal, and the bit rate of the content data is not more than the bit rate that is conformable to the data recording device, the content data is sent as it is in an encrypted compressed data state.

Date Oct. 13, 1983.An analogue to digital converter comprises first and second switches (21:26) for sampling alternately first and second analogue signals, respectively, first and second integrators (22:27) which are supplied with the first and second analogue signals sampled alternately by the first and second switches (21:26), respectively, and produce output voltages varying in response to the first and second analogue signals supplied thereto, a constant current source section (32) operative to supply with a constant current to the first integrator (22) when the first switch (21) is in the OFF state and to the second integrator (27) when the second switch (26) is in the OFF state, and a digital signal generating section (34, 35) which is supplied alternately with comparison outputs obtained by comparing the output voltages of the first and second integrators derived therefrom when the constant current is supplied thereto with a predetermined voltage, respectively, and produces a digital signal corresponding to a duration defined by an instant at which the constant current source section commences supplying the constant current to either the first or second integrator and an instant at which the output voltage of either the first or second integrator, to which the constant current is supplied, reaches the level of the predetermined voltage.
