    Abstract: A ZONE WHERE HEAD IS POSITIONED IS DETERMINED IN A TRACK TO BE ONE OF ZONES 1 TO 4 ACCORDING TO A COMBINATION OF THE POLARITIES OF PHASE-A AND PHASE-B DETECTION OUTPUTS HAVING DIFFERENT PHASES, AND THE POSITIONAL DEVIATION OF THE HEAD FROM THE CURRENT POSITION TO THE CENTER OF THE TARGET TRACK IS OBTAINED FROM THE PHASE-B DETECTION OUTPUT IN THE ZONE. THE PHASE-B DETECTION OUTPUT ID PROVIDED WITH A DEAD ZONE (25) CORRESPONDING TO A RANGE WHERE BOTH DETECTION OUTPUTS HAVE A PHASE-DIFFERENCE ERROR. THEREFORE, EVEN IF THE PHASE DIFFERENCE HAS AN ERROR, THE POSITIONAL DEVIATION OF THE HEAD IS ACCURATELY CALCULATED.

    Abstract: When a seek pulse is sent from the host computer to a disk apparatus in which a head is continuously moved by a voice-coil motor, to return the head to a zero position, even if the head has actually not been returned to the zero position, the disk apparatus generates an acknowledge pulse and sends it to the host computer within a predetermined period of time after the seek pulse is sent. Since a reference-position detection pulse is switched when the head is positioned between the tracks having track numbers of 2 and 1, a track-number count is checked or corrected with this pulse being used as a reference.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To perform more controls quickly, by accessing freely a memory, which is connected to a CPU, directly from an external device wihtout setting the CPU to the holding state. CONSTITUTION:A memory map is allocated by an address decoder 8, and an ROM 3 is used as a program area, and an RAM 1 is used as a data area. The data transfer between an input/output port 6 and the RAM 1 is controlled by an I/O data buffer 9. Addressing of the RAM 1 due to an address counter 7 is controlled by an I/O address buffer 10. A bus control circuit 11 is connected to a CPU 2 through a control bus. The bus control circuit 11 controls buffers 4, 5, 9 and 10 to make it possible to access the RAM 1 from the input/output port 6 at the timing of a machine cycle M1 and to access the RAM 1 from the CPU 2 at other timings.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable moving quickly a head to the final target track center with respect to a disk device in which a head is continuously moved by a VCM (voice coil motor) and the like, because the transfer speed of the head moving by every seek command pulse is delayed when are track gives the seek command pulse corresponding to one pulse, and as a result, it takes time until it is on-tracked on the trackcenter of final target. SOLUTION: When a seek command pulse is given, a head is moved by one track, but when the next seek command pulse is given before a head reaches an adjacent track center, distance of one track is added to distance to an adjacent track center, and a head is accelerated with speed in accordance with this added distance. Thereby, a head can be moved quickly to the target track center.
