Abstract: A voice coil type actuator wherein the length in an axial direction and the number of parts is reduced without deteriorating a required function and the magnetic flux density in a space in which a movable coil is located is substantially uniform over the entire length in an axial direction. The voice coil type actuator comprises a fixed guide shaft having a radial portion made of a permeable material and a movable body supported for axial sliding movement on the guide shaft. The movable coil is supported coaxially with the guide shaft on the movable body. A yoke having a substantially cylindrical profile is disposed in such a manner as to surround a range of movement of the movable coil, and a pair of fixed magnets are disposed in contact with the guide shaft and the yoke and magnetized with the opposite polarities in a radial direction. The yoke has a recess formed therein in the axial direction of the yoke, and a movable member to be moved by the actuator is supported at a portion of the movable body which extends laterally through the recess in the yoke.

The initial position of the lens (8) is determined as a point where the output voltage indicates zero or approximately zero.

Abstract: A magnetoresistive position detecting device according to the present invention comprises a magnet (15) having magnetic poles (N,S) alternately magnetized at predetermined intervals, a magnetoresistive element having magneto-detectors (A1,A2) for a plurality of phases successively disposed a predetermined distance apart, with a pair of the magneto-detectors (A1,A2) provided for each phase, the pair of magneto-detectors (A1,A2) for each phase changing their resistance values in response to the magnetic field of the magnet (15), disposed half the formed magnetic pole width (N,S) in substance, apart, and applied with voltage at both ends (b,Vcc) of a series connection thereof so as to output a signal from the middle point (AO) of the connection, and a signal processing circuit for detecting a change in relative position between the magnetoresistive element and magnet (15) on the basis of a signal obtained from the outputs of the pairs of magneto-detectors (A1,A2) for the respective phases of the magnetoresistive element, and is thereby made capable of position detection of high resolution and accuracy.

Abstract: A lens barrel for a camera wherein an outer profile thereof has a reduced dimension in a radial direction of a movable lens (11) and with a lens holding member (12) that can be moved smoothly in a direction of an optical axis of the movable lens (11) held on the barrel. The lens barrel (3) comprises an outer shell (4) having a pair of guide portions (23) provided therein and a lens holding member (12) holding a movable lens (11) thereon. The lens holding member (12) has a pair of guide portions (34) provided at the opposite locations thereof with respect to the optical axis and is supported at the guide portions (34) thereof for sliding movement on the guide portions (23) of the outer shell (4). The lens barrel (3) further comprises an actuator (15) including a coil (13) securely mounted on the lens holding member (12) and a magnet (14) securely mounted on the outer shell (4). The coil (13) and magnet (14) are disposed coaxially to each other around the optical axis. Position detecting means (36) is disposed in a spaced relationship by substantially equal distances from the guide portions (34) of the lens holding member (12) and detects a position of the lens holding member (12) with respect to the outer shell (4).
