Abstract: A battery with a high battery voltage at charging and improved energy density is provided. A cathode (12) and an anode (14) are laminated with a separator (15) sandwiched therebetween which is impregnated with an electrolyte. The cathode (12) has a cathode active material including a lithium composite oxide which contains lithium, at least either cobalt or nickel, and oxygen. The battery voltage at charging is 4.25 V or more. The total amount of lithium carbonate and lithium sulphate in the cathode (12) to the cathode active material is 1.0 wt% or less, a concentration of protic impurities in the electrolyte, which is converted to a mass ratio of protons to the electrolyte, is 20 ppm or less, or moisture content in the electrolyte is 20 ppm mass ratio or less to the electrolyte. This inhibits metal eluting from the lithium composite oxide even at high voltages.

Abstract: A positive electrode has a strip electrode collector whose both sides are coated with a positive electrode active material layer and a negative electrode has a strip negative electrode collector whose both sides are coated with a negative electrode active material layer. The positive electrode and the negative electrode are layered via a solid electrolyte layer and rolled in the longitudinal direction into a rolled electrode body of a cell. The electrodes have a collector one-side exposed portion at their one end in the longitudinal direction to be positioned at the outermost circumference and the collector one-side exposed portion covers the outer circumference of the rolled electrode body by one turn one more. This configuration can minimize a damage which may be caused when the cell is pushed to be collapsed.

Abstract: The present invention provides a gel electrolyte cell including a non-aqueous electrolytic solution containing lithium-containing electrolyte salt solved in a non-aqueous solvent and made into a gel state by a matrix polymer, and the gel electrolyte contains vinylene carbonate or derivative thereof in the amount not less than 0.05 wt% and not greater than 5 wt%. This gel electrolyte exhibits an excellent chemical stability with the negative electrode, strength, and liquid-retention characteristic. This gel electrolyte enables to obtain a gel electrolyte cell satisfying the cell capacity, cycle characteristic, load characteristic, and low-temperature characteristic.

Abstract: A solid electrolyte battery is disclosed which is capable of raising an energy density without deterioration of discharge load characteristics thereof, incorporating a wound electrode incorporating a positive electrode incorporating an elongated positive-electrode collector having two sides on which positive-electrode active material layers are formed, a negative electrode incorporating an elongated negative-electrode collector having two sides on which negative-electrode active material layers are formed and a solid electrolyte layer formed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode such that the positive electrode and the negative electrode are laminated and wound, wherein when an assumption is made that the total thickness of a pair of the positive-electrode active material layers formed on the two sides of the collector for the positive electrode is total film thickness A and the total thickness of a pair of the negative-electrode active material layers formed on the two sides of the collector for the negative electrode is total thickness B, the total film thickness A of the positive-electrode active material layers satisfies a range from 60 mu m to 150 mu m, and ratio A/B of the total film thickness A of the positive-electrode active material layers with respect to the total thickness B of the negative-electrode active material layers satisfies a range from 0.5 to 1.2.
