Abstract: This invention aims at simplifying the manufacturing and assembling of a cassette and preventing the occurrence of creep in a cassette. A pair of pinch rollers (118, 119) for guiding a magnetic tape (T) are provided movably in an opening (75) for cassette of a casing (71), and the roller shafts (124, 125) supporting these pinch rollers (118, 119) rotatably are supported at both end portions thereof, these roller shafts (124, 125) being provided around their intermediate portions with receiving portions (120b, 121b) which retain the pinch rollers (118, 119) swingably. Accordingly, the pinch rollers (118, 119) are automatically aligned with respect to the roller shafts (124, 125) by the receiving portions (120b, 121b). Moreover, this enables the dimensional accuracy and mounting accuracy of the constituent parts to be moderated, while limiting the flexure of the roller shafts, which is ascribable to the capstans pressure-contacting the same.

Abstract: A method of recording a digital data signal, such as an audio PCM signal, onto a recording medium in the longitudinal direction thereof, together with an apparatus which is suitable for this recording method. Even-numbered words and odd-numbered words in a digital data signal are recorded on a first track group and a second track group, respectively, which are separated from each other in the widthwise direction of a recording medium, to prevent a series of words becoming error words because of, for example, a flaw in the recording medium in the longitudinal direction thereof. The data format is changed at the input and output of a recording encoder to enable an error correction code and a recording circuit to be used in common for digital tape recorders which have different numbers of tracks, e.g., n tracks and 2n tracks. When an error correction code is recorded in such a manner that one word in the digital data signal is divided into a plurality of symbols which are formed into an error correction code, a plurality of symbols of the same word are recorded at a position at which error correlation is strong, making effective use of the error correction capacity of the error correction code.

Abstract: In a rotary head type reproducing apparatus, such as a digital audio tape recorder (DAT), display changeover operation, key scanning operation and/or a sensor scanning operation are inhibited during the periods TPB-A, TPB-B when a rotary head is contacted with a magnetic tape for reproducing signals, and the display changeover operation is performed during time periods TDS1 to TDS4 outside of these periods TPB-A, TPB-B, while the scanning operations are performed during a time period TSC. An error rate may be improved because noises due to display changeover or scanning may be eliminated during the time the magnetic head is contacted with the magnetic tape for signal reproduction. The result is that a shielding or the like may be eliminated and the display section or switches may be mounted in proximity to the rotary head to render it possible to reduce the size or weight of the apparatus.

Abstract: An automatic equalizer employed in a recording and/or reproducing apparatus or a transmission channel for a communication system is disclosed wherein equalizer parameters are rendered variable and the degree of the change of the error rate is extracted to set the parameters to optimum values on the basis of the degree of change of the error rate. Output signal error rates are sequentially detected at a plurality of measurement points corresponding to preset plural characteristic parameters to find a minimum error rate measurement point. An initial parameter setting operation is performed of affording the characteristic parameters for this measurement point to the equalizer as the initial parameter.
