    Abstract: A video signal processing circuit is disclosed in which error correction, error concealment and weighted mean processing (in this order) are performed on input playback video signals from a video tape recorder, wherein, for performing error concealment on erroneous sample data on which error correction has not been feasible a plurality of error concealment methods or algorithms are provided. One of the available error concealment methods is selected in dependence upon the state of error flags of sample data in the neighboring and/or temporal direction of the erroneous sample data to perform a concealment in accordance with the error pattern to provide satisfactory error concealment for a broad range of error rates.

    Abstract: A generating circuit regenerates a color sub-carrier of a PAL color television system on the basis of a reproduced horizontal sync (synchronizing) pulse and a color burst signal. In order to avoid discontinuity of the regenerated sub-carrier due to signal drop-outs, the reproduced sync pulse is supplied to a counter type automatic frequency control (AFC) circuit which can supply a continuous horizontal frequency signal in spite of drop-outs of the reproduced horizontal sync pulse. When the reproduced burst signal is dropped out, the phase of the sub-carrier signal is changed from one phase to another, for example, from +135 DEG to -135 DEG , in order to maintain the swinging conditions of the sub-carrier sequence of the PAL color television system.

    Abstract: A method of and apparatus for reducing the noise of an input signal, such as a composite video signal. An orthogonal transform of the input signal is derived, this orthogonal transform having n transformed signal components. At least some of these signal components are suppressed if their respective signal levels are less than a threshold level. Preferably, the n transformed signal components correspond to different portions of the input signal; and those components representing the higher frequency portions are suppressed if their signal levels are less than the threshold level. Following this signal suppression, the n transformed signal components are reconverted into substantially the input signal, less the suppressed components.

    Abstract: A servo circuit is provided for use with a reproducing apparatus wherein an information signal is reproduced from an elongated slant track formed on a tape which is wrapped on the periphery of a guide drum having a rotary head. The servo circuit includes a circuit for detecting an intermediate point of the length of the slant track and generating a timing signal at the detection of the intermediate point and a circuit for comparing the timing signal with a reference pulse to generate a control signal. A relative position of the slant track to the rotary head is controlled in accordance with the control signal.
