When a coincidence output is generated by the AND Gate 12, a flip-flop 13 is set by the output and its output is supplied as a control signal (s) to a capstan motor control circuit 9. Thus, a slow or intermittent driving signal supplied from a control circuit 9 to a capstan motor is stopped to stop the tape. Then, noiseless still reproduction is performed until the pause button 8 is released.

Moreover, in the panel 20, a line scanning shift register is arranged in the horizontal direction and since the horizontal scanning signal synchronized with the video signal is generated in a liquid crystal panel driving control part 10 to be supplied to the register, scannings for every vertical line are executed in the horizontal direction. Thus, the video of a display area 21 becomes a picture whose longitudinal length and lateral length are ordinary. Since only a line scanning shift register may be provided as a circuit part parallel with the horizontal direction, the size of the vertical direction of the liquid crystal panel 20 is efficiently reduced.
