    Abstract: The latch assembly includes a housing (20), a crank member (50) disposed within the housing for limited rotational movement therein, a pawl (70), a crank pin (90), and an attachment pin (100). The latch assembly may further comprise an actuating member or system, such as a rod. The pawl is selectively movable between latched and unlatched positions in response to rotational movement of the crank member. The crank member is in operable engagement with the actuating member or system, whereby upon rotation of the actuating member, the crank member or pawl is pivoted and slid between latched and unlatched positions.

    Abstract: A fastener for removable metal panels and the like includes a screw having raised threads which terminate short of the head, forming thereat an unthreaded throat. The screw is held captive in the removable panel by a retaining washer which has a helical opening having a pitch corresponding to that of the raised threads of the screw. The washer is threaded over the threads on to the non-threaded throat portion where it is flattened, as by an annular punch, so that it cannot re-enter the threaded portion. The annulus of the washer has a helical outside diameter, as well as a helical inside diameter, to facilitate its flattening by the punch.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a fastener, for a door or other movable element, which, is response to a manual push on the door toward its frame, positively secures the door to the frame, and which in response to a subsequent manual push in the same direction, releases the door. Thus, no handle is required on the exterior surface of the door. When the fastener is compressed between the door and its frame, by an initial manual push on the exterior portion of the door, a cam member is caused to rotate through an acute angle by cooperation of sets of cam surfaces on two members, one of which is the cam member. Rotation of the cam member changes correspondingly the position of a latch element which is an integral part of the rotatable cam member. The latch element provides engagement with the surface of the door frame surrounding a hole of corresponding shape in the door frame. A succeeding manual push in the same direction causes additional angular rotation of the rotatable cam member in the same direction and places the latch element in an angular position to pass through the hole, thereby allowing release of the door from its frame. In a preferred form, a coil spring is incorporated into the fastener assembly to urge the door partially open when the pawl element is in its door-release angular position.

    Abstract: A remote latching mechanism is provided having a connecting member, preferably a cylindrical rod, means for rotating the connecting member about its longitudinal axis, and a latch assembly connected to the connecting member for movement between latched and unlatched conditions in response to the rotation of the connecting member. The means for rotating the rod may be a handle assembly, having a handle journalled within a handle cup, and/or a socket member affixed to the end of the rod for rotation of the rod upon application of torque of the socket member. The latch assembly comprises a crank, at least one link member having over-center action, a pawl support and a pawl, all inter-connected so that upon rotation of the crank, the pawl is pivoted and slid relative to a latch housing between latched and unlatched positions.
