    Abstract: 1368361 Automatic circuit-breakers SQUARE D CO 7 Aug 1972 [9 Aug 1971] 36768/72 Heading H1N A parallel-pole circuit-breaker comprises a parallel-connected pair of single pole units in side-by-side compartments, the fixed contacts being connected to a common line terminal 24, pivotal moving contact carrying arms 44 being connected to a common thermally and magnetically operated tripping device 36 disposed in the first compartment and releasably latching a trip lever 52 in that compartment, and a latch lever in the other compartment being moved to release a trip lever in that compartment upon release of the trip lever 52 in the first compartment. As shown, when the lever 52 is released, a projection 52a moves a cam 67 to turn a shaft 66 and so turn a similar cam in the other compartment, the latter cam turning the latch lever to release the trip lever in the other compartment. The latch lever may carry a tripping indicator visible through a window in the casing (Fig. 4, not shown). The parallel-pole circuitbreaker may be coupled to a like circuitbreaker.

    Abstract: LOW RESISTANCE ELECTRICAL CONNECTING ASSEMBLY A low resistance electrical connecting assembly, each assembly including a plurality of operably arranged conductive elements, each element comprising a pair of relatively narrow, thin, outwardly convex, conducting contact surfaces supported on opposite sides of a latitudinal plane between them. The outwardly convex contact surfaces of each element are conductively associated to provide parallel current paths between source-side and load-side conductors in contact respectively with opposite ones of said conductive surfaces of each element. Such elements may be embodied in the form of a helical coil of conductive wire, each ring of the coil constituting one element. Another embodiment may be individual disks of conductive metal arranged in stacking relationship. Any number of other embodiments are possible which provide a plurality of elements as described, thin, outwardly convex conductive surfaces on opposite sides of a latitudinal plane, in closely adjacent side by side arrangement.

    Abstract: THIS CIRCUIT BREAKER IS A MOLED CASE, MULTI-POLE CIRCUIT BREAKER OF WHICH EACH POLE HAS ITS INDIVIDUAL TOGGLE MECHANISM FOR CLOSURE AND RELEASE. THESE MECHANISMS ARE OPERABLE BY A COMMON OPERATING HANDLE SO AS TO CAUSE ALL OF THE POLES TO CLOSE SIMULTANEOUSLY. EACH TOGGLE MECHANISM IS SPRING BIASED IN THE OPENING DIRECTION, BUT IS LATCHED IN POLE CLOSING POSITION BY A HIGH MAGNETIC RELEASE WHICH RELEASES INSTANTANEOUSLY IN EVENT OF A HIGH CURRENT SHORT CIRCUIT, BY A LOW MAGNETIC RELEASE WHICH RELEASES AT THE END OF A SLIGHTLY LONGER INTERVAL, SUCH AS IN EVENT OF A TEMPORARY HEAVY OVERLOAD, AND BY A THERMAL RELEASE WHICH RELEASES AT THE END OF A SOMEWHAT LONGER INTERVAL DUE TO THERMAL EFFECTS CREATED BY LONGER SUSTAINED, BUT LESSER, OVERLOADS. THE HIGH MAGNETIC RELEASE OF EACH POLE OPERATES IN BYPASSING RELATION TO PARTS OF THE ASSOCIATED TOGGLE MECHANISM AND TO THE OTHER RELEASES FOR QUICKER RELEASING ACTION. THE LOW MAGNETIC RELEASE IS ADJUSTABLE FOR RELEASING IN RESPONSE TO PRESELECTED FLUX INTENSITIES. TRANSFORMERS SUPPLY SECONDARY CURRENT FOR OPERATING THE THERMAL RELEASES FOR THE POLES, RESPECTIVELY. THE AIR GAPS IN THE MAGNETIC FLUX PATH OF EACH TRANSFORMER CAN BE CHANGED READILY BY REMOVABLE RATING COLUMNS TO ASSURE SUBSTANTIALLY THE SAME SECONDARY CURRENT FOR ANY SELECTED PRIMARY CURRENT WITHIN THE RATED CAPACITY OF THE CIRCUIT BREAKER.

    THE TERMINAL STRAP OF EACH POLE ACTS AS THE PRIMARY FOR CREATING THE OPERATING FLUXES. MEANS COMMON TO ALL OF THE POLE MECHANISMS ASSURE CONCURRENT RELEASE OF ALL TOGGLE MECHANISMS INSTANTLY UPON RELEASE OF ANY ONE OF THEM. SPECIFIC SAFELY FEATURES ARE ALSO PRESENT.

    Abstract: A heat dissipator useful in conjunction with a circuit breaker which has a plurality of terminals, each of which may have an electric cable connected thereto by a connector, includes electrically and thermally conductive structure defining means for effectively connecting the heat dissipator in electrically and terminally conductive relationship between a connector and a terminal and means for effectively dissipating heat. The means for dissipating heat includes two spaced-apart electrically conductive supporting members defining an air space between them and a plurality of spaced-apart thermally conductive dissipator members mounted on and between the supporting members in thermally conductive relationship therewith. The dissipator members conduct heat from the supporting members and dissipate at least a portion of the heat thus conducted into the air space. In a particular embodiment the spaced-apart supporting members are leg portions of a bifurcated metallic member which also includes a bight portion integral with the leg portions and the leg portions are the means for effectively connecting the dissipator to a terminal.
