Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expanded FIFO buffer to be used in an Ethernet system. SOLUTION: An Ethernet device has an expanded FIFO buffer. A link partner within the Ethernet system is communicable with a data terminal device (DTE). The speed of the link partner is decided, using the first packet received with the FIFO buffer. The subsequent reading of the FIFO buffer is optimized, based on the decided speed of the link partner, whereby the use of the gap space between packets is enhanced. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
