Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital video recorder (DVR) using a circular file management file to store a digital video program. SOLUTION: There is disclosed the digital video recorder that uses a circular file management system to efficiently manage time-shifted viewing a live video broadcast television program. There is provided for use in the digital video recorder, an apparatus for performing time-shifted viewing of an incoming television program being received by the digital video recorder. The apparatus comprises a controller capable of creating a data file having a defined maximum size on a storage disk of the digital video recorder and capable of causing video data associated with the incoming television program to be stored sequentially in the data file from a first location to an Nth location. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique of a digital video recorder (DVR) for detecting the start code in an MPEG video stream. SOLUTION: The MPEG decoder has a controller that to detects the start codes in a received bit-stream, and each of such codes has a three-byte start code prefix and a one-byte start code value. The controller is operable to fetch a thirty-two bit word of the received bit-stream, determines whether or not the start code prefix and the start code value are properly aligned within the thirty-two bit word, and determine whether or not the least significant byte of the thirty-two bit word may be part of the start code prefix if not properly aligned within the thirty-two bit word. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video indexing system and a method optimized to perform a special mode reproducing operation in a digital video recorder. SOLUTION: The system and method for realizing a special mode reproducing operation in a digital video recorder comprises an intraframe index unit capable of receiving an incoming MPEG video stream and identifying a data packet related to an intraframe. The intraframe index unit corrects the header information in a first data packet related to a first intraframe in order to include positional information for identifying the storage address of a second data packet related to a second intraframe.

SOLUTION: This MPEG decoder comprises: 1) a packetized elementary stream (PES) interface for receiving a plurality of packetized elementary streams associated with a single video program, 2) a presentation time stamp (PTS) detection circuit for detecting presentation time stamps in the packetized elementary streams and extracting the presentation time stamps therefrom, and 3) a selection circuit for selecting presentation time stamps associated with a first one of the plurality of packetized elementary streams transmitting the selected presentation time stamps to a clock generating circuit, wherein the clock generating circuit generates a first reference clock used by a first decoder to decode the first packetized elementary stream. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video data stream multiplexing system for multiplex packeted basic stream in a digital video recorder (DVR). SOLUTION: The video data stream multiplexing system for multiplexing the packeted basic stream in the digital video recorder (DVR), the method for operating the same and a multiplexed program stream are provided. The system relates to the DVR. This system operates to multiplex the packeted basic stream to the multiplexed program stream, and comprises a PES packet of the different size from that of the packeted basic stream. This system comprises (1) a header for receiving the PES packet in a memory buffer, (2) a payload for reformatting to at least one fixed size program packet for defining the content of the payload, and (3) for operating to relate several of at least one fixed size program packets into the multiplexed program stream.
