Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a robust and reliable image processing system and method for recovering a 3D image expression from a plurality of 2D image views. SOLUTION: This image processing system and method recover the 3D image information corresponding to a scene from the plurality of 2D images of the scene. In this method, the corresponding characteristics of the plurality of images between the different 2D views of the scene are received, and the corresponding characteristics of the images are shifted between the different views as the result of the relative motion of cameras. In this method, an occlusion determines a specific image characteristic of the plurality of the image characteristics, determines a specific image characteristic of the plurality of the image characteristics received as a confident seed related to 3D depth information, and propagates the 3D depth information from the confident seed to an adjacent image characteristic while avoiding the image characteristic determined to be a view in which the occlusion occurs.
