These compounds are useful in the preparation of highly impact resistant nylon block copolymers.

Abstract: 22772-1130 This invention relates to a process for the preparation of a nylon block copolymer in which two or more reaction streams consisting of molten lactam are combined in a mould, said reaction streams containing one or more polyols, lactam blocked polyisocyanates and catalysts, and the catalysts and polyisocyanates being in different streams, which reaction, streams having a temperature of 68.degree.C - 95.degree.C introduced into a mould having a temperature of 100.degree.C - 180.degree.C. The advantage of this process is that now the polyol is homogeneously distributed throughout the nylon matrix, and as a consequence a nylon block copolymer with excellent notched resistance is obtained.

Abstract: The invention relates to the N-substituted acyl-lactam compound of the formula: where - R' is a bivalent cyclic or non-cyclic alkyl, aralkyl, alkaryl or aryl radical - R" a radical having the following general formula wherein - R'" is H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl, - Riv is H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl where - R'" and Riv may jointly form a substituted or non-substituted cycloalkyl residue - n is 0 or 1 - (-L) represents a non-opened lactam ring and - x a numer > 1. It has been found that this group of compounds is very suitable as activator in the preparation of nylon polymers, more specifically in the so-called RIM (Reaction Injection Moulding) or RRIM (reinforced RIM) systems, in which it is highly essential for the polymerization to take effect within a very short time.

It has been found that this group of compounds is very suitable as activator in the preparation of nylon block copolymers, more specifically in the RIM or RRIM systems.
