    Abstract: A catalyst system that is a combination of at least two components A and B, which components comprise: A : one or more titanium compounds and one or more vanadium com pounds, mixed with one or more organoaluminium compounds in such an amount that the atomic ratio of aluminium to the sum of titanium and vanadium is at least 3, B : one or more organoaluminium compounds, one or both of components A and B containing a chloride, and which two components are fed, separately or in combination, direct to the reaction vessel in such an amount that the atomic ratio of the chlorine from components A and/or B to the sum of titanium and vanadium of component A is at least o, is suitable for (co)polymerization of ethylene and optionally minor amounts of 1-alkenes and/or dienes at high polymerization temperatures.

    Abstract: AE 5438 Catalyst system, suitable for the (co)polymerization of ethylene and optionally minor amounts of 1-alkenes and/or dienes at a temperature of at least 180.degree.C, to be prepared by combining at least two components A and B, which components comprise: A : one or more titanium compounds, one or more vanadium com pounds, one or more aluminium compounds, one or more magnesium compounds and optionally one or more halogen compounds, in such amounts that the atomic ratio of magnesium to the sum of titanium and vanadium is between 0 and 10, the atomic ratio of aluminium to the sum of titanium and vanadium is at least 3, the atomic ratio of aluminium to magnesium is at least 1, and the atomic ratio of halogen to magnesium is at least 2, B : one or more organoaluminium compounds, which two components are, separately or in combination, supplied direct to the polymerization vessel.

    Abstract: AE 3475 An improved process for the preparation of a catalyst for the polymerization of ethylene, and an improved process for preparing an ethylene polymer therewith. An improved catalyst is prepared by mixing an aluminium halide and a magnesium compound at a temperature below 100 .degree.C and in the absence of monomer(s), their ratio being such that the molar ratio between halogen and magnesium is from 2 : 1 to 20 : 1, mixing an alcohol with the mixture of the aluminium halide and the magnesium compound, this also being effected at below 100 .degree.C and in the absence of monomer(s), the amounts used being such that the molar ratio between alcohol and hydrocarbyl groups bound to magnesium and aluminium is from 0.1 to 0.9, and by adding after mixing of the aluminium compound and the magnesium compound and before, simultaneously with or after combining with the alcohol, a titanium compound, the amounts added being such that the molar ratio between magnesium and titanium is from 2 : 1 to 200 : 1. The improved polymerization process is carried out at at least 180 .degree.C.
