Abstract: An N-substituted carbamoyl-lactam compound of the formula wherein R is a radical derived from polytetramethyleneglycol R(OH)2 and represents the radical remaining from the polytetramethylene oxide starting material used in preparing polytetramethyleneglycol and has an equivalent weight of 300-2500, R min is an alkylene, cycloalkylene, arylene, alkarylene or an aralkylene group having 6-25 carbon atoms, Y is a C3-C14 alkylene group, and a has a value of at least 1. This compound is suitable as an activator for the lactam polymerization, especially in RIM applications.

The compounds are highly suited for use as activators in preparing nylon block copolymers.
