Abstract: In order to dislodge our bubbles from particles e.g. cut cylindrical fibers, as they enter a confined liquid body through a surface, a small portion of the liquid body near the surface is vibrated and the particles are funneled into the liquid body through the surface by means calculated to subject each particle to about the same amount of vibration. By preference this includes funneling the particles onto the central region of a submerged, perforated plate. The particles vibrate to the periphery of the plate and fall into the gap between the plate and the confining walls of the liquid body. In a counter current liquid extraction system, liquid may pass up through the plate perforations.

Abstract: 1,116,099. Melt-spinning apparatus. STAMICARBON N.V. 1 Dec., 1965 [3 Dec., 1964], No. 51020/65. Heading B5B. Apparatus for providing a uniform non- turbulent stream of gas for quench - cooling melt - spun filaments comprises a quench chamber and a plenum chamber separated by at least one apertured screen, the plenum chamber having a cooling gas inlet at one end thereof; an impermeable deflecting screen located between the gas inlet and the apertured screen and extending symmetrically towards oppositely - facing side walls of the plenum chamber to provide slits for passage of cooling gas; and one or more further apertured screens disposed between the slits and the screens separating the quench and plenum chambers. In one embodiment (Figs. 1 and 2) quench chamber 3, located under spinneret 2, is separated from plenum chamber 4 by parallel wire gauzes 5A, 5B. The plenum chamber is provided with walled 7 and gauze-covered 8 cooling gas inlet 6 and with vertical curved baffle screen 9 extending the whole length of the plenum chamber with its convex side facing screens 5. Slits 10, 11 are formed between the edges 90, 91 of screen 9 and opposite straight side-walls 40, 41 of the plenum chamber. Between screen 9 and screens 5 are located apertured screens 13, 14 symmetrically extending towards the edges of screen 5A to form a prism therewith having an isosceles triangular cross-section with the central line of symmetry of screen 9 as its apex. A vertical baffle strip 15 is fixed along the centre line of screen 9 within the gauze prism. In operation air from inlet 6 is deflected through 90 degrees by the curved back wall 42 of the plenum chamber, to which movable deflectors 16, 17 are fixed, and passes via slits 10, 11, through gauze screens 13, 14, 5A, 5B to provide a uniform air flow on to the molten filaments.
