Abstract:
Acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile was manufd. by the ammoxidn. of propylene or isobutylene and recovered from the reaction mixt. by contacting the product stream with a guenching liq. which forms a gaseous stream, absorbing the gas in water to form a soln. and distg. the soln. to recover acetonitrile by removing the major part of the byproduct and water. The bottom flow from the distn. column is recycled and used at least a part of the quenching liq.
Abstract:
A PROCESS FOR THE DEEP WELL DISPOSAL OF A WASTE WATER STREAM RESULTING FROM A CATALYTIC AMMOXIDATION PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF ACRYLONITRILE COMPRISES ADDING MINOR AMOUNTS OF ACROLEIN OR A MIXTURE OF ACROLEIN AND AMMONIUM SULFATE TO THE WASTE WATER STREAM PRIOR TO PUMPING THE STREAM INTO THE WELL.
Abstract:
The invention comprises compounds of the general formula: where R is a beta alkylene radical containing 3 to 8 carbon atoms; x is 1 or 2; R1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical containing 1 or 2 carbon atoms and Z is a group containing not more than 10 carbon atoms of one of the formulae: where R11 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbons. The compounds may be made by reacting: or H3BO3 and HOROH with an alcohol of the formula Z(CR12)xOH. The reaction may be effected in a non-polar hydrocarbon solvent, and water removed by azeotropi or other distillation or by chemical absorption. Detailed examples are given. Specification 722,538 is referred to.ALSO:A petroleum hydrocarbon stock contains as a biocidal additive at least one compound of the general formula where R is a beta-alkylene radical containing 3 to 8 carbon atoms; x is 1 or 2; R1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical containing 1 or 2 carbon atoms and Z is a group containing not more than 10 carbon atoms of one of the formulae where R11 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbons, in an amount to provide from 0.0004 to 0.01 wt. per cent of elemental boron based on the weight of hydrocarbon. A keto-alcohol or etho-alcohol, e.g. 2-methoxy-1-ethanol, may also be present. Specified petroleum stocks are gasoline, kerosine, diesel fuel, jet fuel, home heating oil, hydraulic fluids, dry cleaning solvents, greases, waxes and lubricating oils. These stocks may contain conventional additives such as detergents, anti-icing compounds, antioxidants, gum inhibitors, rust inhibitors, solvent oils, organo lead compounds, viscosity index improvers, dyes, deodorizers and stabilizers. Specification 722,538 is referred to.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for greatly reducing the amount of solids-containing waste streams produced during the recovery of acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile produced by the ammoxidation reaction of propylene or isobutylene with molecular oxygen and ammonia. … This is realized by recycling at least a part of the product column bottoms to the quench column.
