Abstract:
Novel copolymers and terpolymers of the amide-imide type are prepared from tricarboxylic acid anhydride compounds, N,N'-diacylated diamines, N-acylated diamines, and primary diamines. These copolymers and terpolymers are useful for preparing injection molded articles of superior properties. A novel process for the manufacture of amide-imide copolymers and terpolymers is disclosed wherein the imide, imide-imide, amide, and amide-amide moieties incorporated into the polymer backbone can be controlled by acylating the amine functionality which is to form the amide and amide-amide moieties while reacting directly those diamines with a tricarboxylic anhydride compound which are intended to form the imide and imide-imide moieties.
Abstract:
POLY(ALKYLENETRIMELLITATE IMIDES) AND METHOD OF PREPARATION Poly(alkylenetrimellitate imide) having an inherent viscosity (I.V.) of at least 0.3 dl/g at 25.degree.C and 0.5% w/v 60/40 w/w phenol/1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane suitable for forming self-supporting films, coatings and molded objects. The polymer can be produced by melt polymerizing an N-hydroxyalkyl trimellitic acid imide under melt polymerization conditions in the presence of a tin, antimony or titanate catalyst.
Abstract:
Docket 13063 AMIDEIMIDE POLYMERS Process of producing an amideimide polymer without using an acid having an acyl halide group which comprises reacting a composition comprising an aromatic diprimary amine and a tricarboxylic acid compound in an alcoholic solvent comprising an alkanol containing from 4 to 10 carbon atoms. In those cases where only diprimary aromatic amine is reacted, a tertiary amine is required. If desired, a glycol can be present.
