Abstract: 1362013 Polyolefin derivatives STANDARD OIL CO 25 Aug 1971 [31 Aug 1970] 39897/71 Heading C3P [Also in Division C5] Oil-soluble aliphatic acid modified Mannich condensation products are prepared by reacting at 150‹ to 325‹ F. (a) a polyolefin substituted phenol derived from a polyolefin of molecular weight 600 to 100,000, (b) an amine containing at least one NH group and (c) an aliphatic aldehyde, or a reaction product of (a), (b) and (c), with (d) an aliphatic acid containing at least 6 carbon atoms, in molar ratios of 1 to 0À7-1À0 to 1À5-2À1 to 0À014-1À0 respectively, slowly adding to the resulting product 2 to 6 moles of additional aliphatic aldehyde per mole of (a), and dehydrating the resulting mass by raising the temperature thereof, e.g. by adjusting the temperature of the reaction mass to 275‹ to 375‹ F. and blowing with an inert stripping gas. In examples, polybutenyl phenols and tetraethylene pentamine are reacted with (I) formalin and C 16-18 fatty acids and (II) formaldehyde and oleic acid, and after addition of (I) formalin and (II) paraformaldehyde the products are blown with nitrogen.
