Abstract: A method of natural gas liquefaction comprising first and second nitrogen refrigerant streams, each stream undergoing a cycle of compression, cooling, expansion and heating, during which the first nitrogen stream is expanded to a first, intermediate pressure and the second nitrogen stream is expanded to a second, lower pressure, and the heating occurs in one or more heat exchangers in which at least one of the expanded nitrogen streams is in heat exchanging relationship with natural gas, wherein, in at least one of said one or more heat exchangers, the first and second expanded nitrogen streams are in a heat exchanging relationship with the natural gas and both the first and second compressed nitrogen streams. The liquefaction can occur in three stages: in an initial stage the heated, expanded first nitrogen stream and the heated, expanded second nitrogen stream are used to cool the natural gas; in an intermediate stage the compressed first nitrogen stream is expanded to an intermediate pressure and used to cool the natural gas; and in a final stage the compressed, second nitrogen stream is expanded to a low pressure and used to cool the natural gas.

Abstract: Un método de licuefacción de gas natural que comprende una primera y segunda corrientes de refrigerante de nitrógeno, cada corriente se somete a un ciclo de compresión, enfriamiento, expansión y calentamiento, durante el cual la primera corriente de nitrógeno se expande a una primera presión intermedia y la segunda corriente de nitrógeno se expande a una segunda presión más baja, y el calentamiento ocurre en uno o más intercambiadores de calor en los cuales por lo menos una de las corrientes de nitrógeno expandidas está en una relación de intercambio de calor con gas natural, en donde, en por lo menos uno del intercambiador de calor o los intercambiadores de calor, la primera y segunda corrientes de nitrógeno expandidas están en una relación de intercambio de calor con el gas natural y con la primera y segunda corrientes de nitrógeno comprimido. La licuefacción puede ocurrir en tres etapas: en una etapa inicial la primera corriente de nitrógeno expandida y calentada y la segunda corriente de nitrógeno expandida y calentada se usan para enfriar el gas natural; en una etapa intermedia la primera corriente de nitrógeno comprimido se expande hasta una presión intermedia y se usa para enfriar el gas natural;, y en una etapa final la segunda corriente de nitrógeno comprimido se expande hasta una presión baja y se usa para enfriar el gas natural.

Abstract: A fluid distribution element for a heat exchanger has a cavity 430 into which heat exchange channels can open in fluid communication with a first header port 410 by a passageway 440. The element may be a plate. Cavity 430 is spaced apart from the port and shaped to allow heat exchanger channels to open into said cavity. The passageway is narrower than the port and the cavity, and may form a throttle tube. A second port 420 between the first port 410 and the cavity 430 may be bypassed by the passageway 440. By aligning a number of fluid distribution elements in the first direction, the ports define a header through the stacked assembly, each port having an associated localised distribution cavity for supplying a series of heat exchanger channels with fluid. The heat exchanger may cool and liquefy natural gas (LNG).
