Abstract: Vanadium halides or oxyhalides are prepared by reacting vanadium oxyhalides or pentoxide with a halogen in the presence of activated carbon at an elevated temperature in a fluidised bed reactor, and thereafter separating the vanadium halide or oxyhalide from the other reaction products, the reaction being conducted in a fluidised bed reactor equipped with internal filters to prevent carryover of entrained solids with the vanadium halide or oxyhalide.
