Abstract: PURPOSE: To perform the gain control of optical amplifier of ASE having the center at 1.535μm by using the signal of 1.551μm so as to form the base of a gain control loop. CONSTITUTION: This device is composed of an erbium-doped fiber 1, pump laser 2, wavelength multiplexer 3 for superimposing the output of the pump laser and an input optical signal, pump/signal demulti-plexer 5 for dividing an output signal and a section B of small ASE at 1.5μm, output port 6 for optical signal, band filter 7, detection part 8, amplifier 9 and feedback loop 10. Then, the output of the feedback loop 10 is impressed to the pump laser 2, and pump output power is changed so as to maintain a fixed gain, namely, the fixed strength of natural discharge. Thus, the amplifier gain at 1.535μmA can be kept constant by feeding back a change in the strength of ASEB having the window center at 1.551μm.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To achieve a rapid and stable modulation by enabling a fiber to provide external air-conditioning with a gain distribution for chip. CONSTITUTION: A diode amplifier chip 1 is arranged in a ring cavity device that contains a single-mode optical fiber with a rare earth dope with a length 2, especially an erbium doped single-mode optical fiber and a single-mode optical fiber with lengths 3 and 4. With couplers 5 and 6, both edges of the erbium doped fiber 2 are connected to the fiber lengths 3 and 4. The fiber is pumped optically by such means 7 as a frequency multiplied titanium-sapphire laser. When the injection current of the diode amplifier chip 1 is modulated, pulse discharge processing is completely used for a device so that it plays a mutual, operational role. Therefore, the device has hybrid functional characteristics and has an original capability for generating relatively high-peak power ultra- short pulses.
