Water tube boilers; headers; drums; superheaters, steam.-The front and rear headers of a boiler of the type shown in Fig. 1 are each constructed of two sheets flanged outwardly, the hand-hole sheets 7, 9 fitting into the flared portions of the tubesheets 2, 2 . The flange 7 of the hand-hole sheet 7, Fig. 3, is identical with the flanged part 2 of the tube-sheet 2. The end 2 of the tube-sheet flange is formed parallel to the flange 7 of the sheet 7. The intermediate part 6 is flared outwardly by an amount equal to the thickness of the material used. The headers are bent so that the water-tubes 1, the equalizer tubes 3, and the superheating-tubes 4 enter the tube-sheets at rightangles. The steam drum 5 is provided with a condensation pipe 11, looped at 13 for flexibility, leading to the rear header.

Man-hole and hand-hole doors.-Internal covers or doors for circular hand-holes or man-holes are provided with a flange 3, which is cut away on opposite sides, as shown at 11, Fig. 1, to permit its passage through the hole. The joint is made tight with a packing-ring 4 of copper, lead, wire, and asbestos, or the like, which overlaps the flange 3 at the flattened parts. The packing - ring may be thickened at these parts, as shown in Fig. 3. Slots 10 in the crab or arch 9 facilitate the removal of the cover. For centring the cover, lugs 12 are provided.
