Abstract: A digital radio receiver achieves an outstandingly performance in terms of high signal/noise ratio by first converting a received radio frequency signal to a signal at an intermediate frequency by a fully analog tuning stage, thus avoiding to introduce any digital conversion noise before down-converting at intermediate frequency the radio signal.
The resulting digital signal is down-converted for generating in-phase and quadrature components that are filtered and eventually equalized by a programmable digital signal processor for compensating variations of the broadcast channel that may negatively affect the performance, especially in car radio applications.
