    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for producing a microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) web. The method comprises preparing an MFC suspension comprising water as suspension medium. A wet MFC web is formed of the MFC suspension by casting on a non-porous support or on a paper or paperboard substrate positioned on the non-porous support. The wet MFC web formed on the non-porous support or on a paper or paperboard substrate positioned on the non-porous support is subjected to water removal by means of dewatering and/or drying to form the MFC web. Water removed from the wet MFC web by the water removal is collected into at least one water fraction. Optionally, the at least one water fraction is subjected to a purification treatment. The at least one water fraction is used as suspension medium in the preparation of the MFC suspension.
