Abstract:
A laser device is disclosed, the laser device comprising: a pump light source (2; 22) comprising one or more lamps configured to emit light (20); and a slab crystal (1; 21) having a front face, a back face, and four sides such that said back face and said sides are configured to reflect a laser beam (16) internally within said crystal (1; 21), said crystal (1;21) being configured to absorb energy obtained from said emitted light (20), wherein the slab crystal (1; 21) is configured to receive an input laser beam (16; 17) in the front face of the crystal (1; 21), with the crystal (1; 21) configured such that the laser beam (16) is reflected within the crystal (1; 21) more than two times while being amplified by the crystal (1; 21) using said received light energy, and wherein the input laser beam (16; 17) is thereby converted by the crystal (1; 21) into an amplified laser beam (17') emitted from one of the faces of the crystal (1; 21). Also, a system comprising a plurality of laser devices is disclosed.
Abstract:
A device and method for providing electrical energy storage of high specific energy density. The device contains a plurality of layers of high dielectric constant material, such as Barium Titanate or Hexagonal Barium Titanate, sandwiched between electrode layers made up of a variety of possible conducting materials. The device includes additional insulating layers, such as Diamond Like Carbon Coating, between the electrodes that provide for very high breakdown voltages. Layers are created by a variety of methods and assembled to form the device that is the High Energy Density Storage Device.
Abstract:
An industrial scale smelting system for using arc furnaces for processing large quantities of ore in a production manner for recovery of a plurality of elements in useful quantities using a plurality of electrowinning processes with the options of providing efficient energy recovery and raw material recovery and recirculation capabilities.
Abstract:
A Polygon Oscillating Piston Engine having multiple pistons on one of two oscillating disks. Each piston moves in a straight line along one of the sides of a polygon within a cylindrical chamber, while the oscillating disks move in an arc about a central shaft. The difference in the straight motion of the piston and angular motion of the oscillating disk is accommodated by a slip sleeve within the piston that slides on a peg or bar mounted to each disk. The engine can be configured to operate as an internal combustion engine that uses diesel fuel, gasoline, or natural gas, or it can be configured as an expander to convert high pressure high temperature gas to rotary power. This engines compact design results in a high power-to-weight ratio.
Abstract:
An engine configuration that places multiple pistons on one or two oscillating discs. The engine can be configured to operate as an internal combustion engine that uses diesel fuel, gasoline, or natural gas, or it can be configured as an expander to convert high pressure high temperature gas to rotary power. For any given set of choices of numbers of pistons and sizes of pistons, disks, and gears, there are disclosed dimensional constraints useful for more efficient functioning of the engine. This engine is especially suited as a driver for electrical power generation as it delivers high torque at low engine speeds, among other uses. Its compact design results in high power to weight ratios.
