    Abstract: A process for separating 1,6-naphthalenedisulfonic acid, 2,6-naphthalenedisulfonic acid or 2,7-naphthalenedisulfonic acid selectively from reaction mixtures obtained by disulfonation of naphthalene under different reaction conditions is disclosed. For example, a particular disulfonation reaction of naphthalene is carried out which favors the formation of a particular isomer. This reaction mixture is diluted with water to adjust the sulfuric acid concentration to 35 to 90% by weight and the temperature is maintained at 0 DEG to 80 DEG C.; 1,6-naphthalene-disulfonic acid is selectively separated at high purity.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply obtain the subject compound useful as the intermediate of a cyanide coupler for color photography in high purity. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 2,4-dichloro-3-ethyl-6-nitrophenol of formula I comprises sulfonating 4-chloro-3-ethylphenol of formula II with fuming sulfate (28-65% concentration) in an organic solvent (e.g. methylene chloride) preferably at 10-50 deg.C chlorinating the produced 5-chloro-4-ethyl-2- hydroxybenzene-sulfonic acid with chlorine gas in an aqueous solvent, converting the produced 3,5-dichloro-4-ethyl-2-hydroxybenzenesulfonic acid into a sulfonic acid, depositing the sulfonic acid, and further nitrating the sulfonic acid with nitric acid or a nitrate.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for separating and purifying a nitrogen-containing aromatic ring compound with a salt of an aromatic sulfonic acid. SOLUTION: This method for separating and purifying the nitrogen-containing aromatic ring compound comprises forming a salt from the nitrogen-containing aromatic ring compound with an aromatic sulfonic acid or its salt in water solvent or a mixed solvent system of the water with an organic solvent under acidic conditions, separating the resultant salt by a difference in solubility or extraction with a solvent, providing the objective aromatic sulfonate of the nitrogen-containing aromatic ring compound, treating the prepared aromatic sulfonate of the nitrogen-containing aromatic ring compound with a basic substance and collecting the objective nitrogen-containing aromatic ring compound. The method has characteristics in that environmental load is smaller than that of a conventional method.
