Abstract: PURPOSE:To detect the leakage point of a pipeline easily and definitely by arranging the pipe made of a material, which swells by the immersion of a liquid, near the pipeline and then by fining a reflection point at the swelling part with an ultrasonic wave sent from one terminal. CONSTITUTION:The outside of detecting pipe 1 made of a material swelling by the immersion of oil such as natural rubber and isobutylene-isoprene rubber is covered with reinforcing protective layer 3 made of rubber, etc., with a buried mateial, in which oil immerses rapidly, such as nylon and metal meshes, thereby keeping the outer diameter of swelling detecting pipe 1 constant. Then, pipe 1 is arranged as an ultrasonic waveguide along the pipeline closely and an ultrasonic wave is sent from its one terminal. Oil, if leaking, causes detecting pipe 1 to swell and inner cavity 2 is deformed to increase in inner diameter or to be completely blocked. As a result, the ultrasonic wave is reflected there. This reflection point is measured to detect the oil leakage point of the pipeline.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To stretch a polymer film in the transverse direction using an energy conservation type equipment which is easy to operate and inexpensive by a method wherein a polymer film is wound up around an annular body capable of moving in the axial direction and then the wound-up article is moved in such a direction as to separate both ends from each other. CONSTITUTION:The polymer film 1 (for example, a polypropylene film uniaxially oriented in the longitudinal direction by a roll stretching machine or the like) is wound up directly around a tension coil spring 3, for example, with spacers 2 for chucks provided at both ends thereof, or, alternatively, the film 1 is wound up into a pipelike form and the coil spring 2 is inserted into it. Then, both ends of the wound film 1 are clamped by the chucks 4, and after heating to a stretching temperature in a thermostatic chamber, the film 1 is transversely stretched by driving it together with the spring 3 in the axial direction of the spring 3, for example, through a wire rope 6. After the stretching operation, the film 1 is subjected to an after-treatment and is wound up, for example, around a pipe or the like.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a solar heat or other light heat collecting substance which improves a weather resistance and a corrosion resistance, by a method wherein a fluoric resin covered-layer is formed on an aluminum or a copper surface through a blackening treatment layer. CONSTITUTION:A blackening treatment is applied to an aluminum or a copper surface. For example, the copper surface is blackened by an electrolytic oxidation method by the use of natrium hydroxide and the aluminum surface by a method in which molybedenum water solution is used. A fluoric resin-covered layer is then formed on said blackened layer. The fluoric resin is excellent in a solar light transmitting property, weather resistance and durability, thereby this constitution obtains a heat collecting substance, excellent in heat absorbing property, weather resistance, durability, and a corrosion resistance.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the percolation of liquid to the feeding side of gas under pressure and decrease the diameters of the bubbles produced in the liquid by constituting the surface consisting of a material having affinity to the liquid and the surface exhibiting water repellency respectively in a porous material of a gas diffuser. CONSTITUTION:As a material having affinity to the liquid, a material having an SP value close to the solubility parameter (SP) of the liquid is used. For example, in the case of using water as the liquid, polyvinyl alcohol, cellulose acetate or the like having the SP value close to that of water is used. As a water-repellent porous material, fluorine plastics, silicone plastics, rubber, polyethylene, etc. are used alone or in combination. The porous material is preferably of 5-50mum pore sizes, 50- 95% porosities and 0.1-10mm. thicknesses, and nonwoven structure laminated with fibers or the like is desirable as the structure for the porous material.

CONSTITUTION:As a hydrophobic catalyst for the oxidation of hydrogen, or oxygen contg. compd, or the like, is used a catalyst obtained by supporting a catalytic metal of a Group VIII element of the Periodic Table such as platinum or rubidium on a carrier obtained by dispersing polycarbon monofluoride with specific surface area of 150-400M /g into porous polytetrafluoroethylene comprising knots mutually connected by fine fibers. Because this catalyst uses a hydrophobic support with large specific surface area, it has high activity and high mechanical strength even in a reaction system involving water at room temp.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a porous material suitable for a partially cured filter membrane, a medical material or the like, by a method wherein, to a desired portion of a porous polytetrafluorethylene material, a solution of a resin with a specific m.p. is impregnated and, after drying, the obtained impregnated porous material is heated to a temp. of specific m.p. or higher. CONSTITUTION:A liquid luburicating agent is mixed into unsintered powder of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and, after the obtained mixture is molded by the extrusion or the like, said lubricating agent is removed by the extrusion or the like and the stretching is carried out at 327 deg.C or higher to obtain a porous PTFE material with enhanced strength. To a desired portion of this porous material, a solution of resin (vinyl chloride resin or the like) with m.p. of 327 deg.C or lower is impregnated, and, after drying, said desired portion of a porous material is cured by heating at a temp. between m.p. of a resin and 327 deg.C. Thereby, the application in various field can be exploited by curing a desired portion of a medical tube such as a catheter or a intratracheal tube to make the use thereof easy.
