Abstract: A motion-video decoding method of the present invention comprises: an intra-prediction step (S403) for calculating a prediction sample value of a subject block, by implementing intra-prediction to the subject block; a rebuilding sample calculating step (S404) for calculating a rebuilding sample of the subject block, by adding residual data of the subject block and the prediction sample value. In the intra-prediction step, validity of each of a plurality of reference samples located either right above or right to the left of the subject block are evaluated, and when both a valid reference sample and an invalid reference sample are included in the plurality of reference samples, the intra-prediction is implemented using the valid reference sample, and reference samples that had the intra-prediction implemented thereupon are evaluated as valid reference samples, and reference samples that had inter-prediction implemented thereupon are evaluated as invalid reference samples.

Abstract: An image decoding method which can improve both image quality and encoding efficiency decodes an encoding stream which is generated by encoding a moving image, and which contains a plurality of processing units, and headers for the plurality of processing units. At least one processing unit among the plurality of processing units is layered so as to be separated into a plurality of smaller processing units; and the image decoding method analyses layer depth information stored in the header, and thus specifies the layer wherein a processing unit wherein a parameter necessary for decoding is stored (S101), and uses the parameter that is stored in the processing unit in the specified layer to decode said processing unit (S102).
