Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a transmission of other data indicating the operational state of a stylus in addition to the transmission of a position signal by providing a memory which stores data, and a logical means which converts the stored data into a serial bit stream in the stylus used together with a computer. SOLUTION: The operator of a computer 3 performs the drawing of a line or the writing of a character on a display 9 with a stylus 6, and the stylus 6 transmits a signal for allowing a computer 3 to confirm the position of the stylus 6. Data are stored in the register of the stylus, and the data of a type 1 indicate the state of a shaft part switch arranged on the shaft part of the stylus. The data of a type 2 indicate the state of a top end switch, and the data of a type 3 indicate the state of a battery. Those three kinds of stylus signals are held in the register, that is, a memory, and the data of the register are converted into a serial bit stream, and transmitted.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device/method for inputting a graphic, which can use plural styluses (pens) by means of following a signal graphic input face (tablet device). SOLUTION: In the input device, information on the stylus which is uniquely identified for the control circuit of a graphic input face 300 is generated by guiding alternation electric field current 510 and 512 to the four corners (A to D) of tin oxide indium (ITO) of the graphic input face by plural styluses 502 and 504. For multiplex-transmitting identification information contained in a guided current signal in the use form of such graphic input, any of well- known various techniques can be used. The respective styluses can use different frequencies so that a frequency division multiplex method can be applied, for example. A method for shifting the phase of the guided alternation signal and a method for modulating or demodulating identification data sequence peculiar to the respective styluses are contained.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stylus for identifying a user from a handwritten image. SOLUTION: This invention is relates to a stylus 6 to be used together with a digitizing table 3. The stylus 6 stores information for identifying the characteristic of the handwritten image of a user. Those characteristics are transmitted to a computer 4 when the user interfaces with the computer 4, and the computer 4 is used for identifying the handwritten image of the user.
