Abstract: PURPOSE: To attain reading in a hand mode by including a hand type laser scanning device which forms a laser beam scanning pattern on a mark to be read, and a terminal device which displays and stores data transmitted from the scanning device. CONSTITUTION: This system is constituted of a hand type scanning device 10 in a light portable housing which includes mark detecting means 19, 37, and 42 which generate a laser beam 17, receive a reflected light beam from a mark 12, and form a corresponding electric signal, data transferring means 25, reading control means 30, and light source 23. Also, this system is constituted of a terminal device 11 which can be operated far from the scanning device. Thus, the miniaturization, low cost, and small power consumption of this system can be attained, and reading in a hand mode or a fixed station mode can be attained.
