Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the improved data communication system that connects a wireless LAN or a WAN to a PBX by setting up communication between a terminal and the PBX through 1st and 2nd radio channels and a bridge. SOLUTION: Communication between a terminal and a PBX is set up through 1st and 2nd radio channels and a bridge. For example, in a system where a LAN 670 connects to an Ethernet on a WAN 650 through a host interface unit HIU 600, the HIU 600 conducts a routing function, that is, a bridging function between the LAN 670 and the WAN 650. The PBX 630 is located on the WAN 650 and communication only with devices at the outside of the LAN 670 is sent to the WAN 650 through the HIU 600. Furthermore, other network than the LAN 670 such as a LAN 680 or a WAN 690 and a device such as a server 640 are connected to the WAN 650 to make communication with the PBX 630.

In a preferred embodiment ofthe invention, the remote device is a cash register comprising a bar code scanner and a phone. Ratio communication between the register and a host computer is carried out over two channels, a first channel for data communication and a second channel for voice communication.
