Abstract: PURPOSE: To read and decode a second-dimensional bar code mark in any direction by obtaining the picture of the second-dimensional bar code mark, and converting the picture into a digital expression. CONSTITUTION: A CCD/CMD camera 18 picks up the picture of a second- dimensional bar code mark 20, and converts it into an electric signal. Then, the electric signal from the camera 18 is transmitted to a frame grabber circuit 16, and the circuit 16 converts the signal into the digital expression of the original picture. An analog signal 8 from the CCD/CMD camera 18 is converted into a gray level value of 8 bits, and transmitted to a decoder 14. The decoder 14 decodes the signal into the matrix of a code word value corresponding to the line and row of the second-dimensional bar code mark. The matrix of the code word value from the decoder 14 is further decoded into data which can be used by a high level decoder which can be realized by a separated computer program running on a host computer 12.
