Abstract:
Provided herein is an apparatus including a substrate and a magnetic recording layer over the substrate. In addition, a thermochromic layer is over the substrate, wherein the thermochromic layer includes a first optical absorbance at a first temperature and a second optical absorbance at a second temperature.
Abstract:
Aspects include recording media with enhanced areal density through reduction of head media spacing, head keeper spacing, or head to soft underlayer spacing. Such aspects comprise replacing currently non-magnetic components of devices, such as interlayers and overcoats with components and compositions comprising magnetic materials. Other aspects relate to magnetic seed layers deposited within a recording medium. Preferably, these aspects, embodied as methods, systems and/or components thereof reduce effective magnetic spacing without sacrificing physical spacing.
Abstract:
An apparatus including a heat sink layer and a magnetic recording layer over the heat sink layer. In addition, a thermochromic layer is over the heat sink layer, wherein the thermochromic layer includes a first optical absorbance at a first temperature and a second optical absorbance at a second temperature.
Abstract:
A vapor deposition source that includes a substantially vertical plate to which first and second filament posts are coupled. The vapor deposition source also includes a filament having a first end and a second end. The filament provides a substantially concentric source of electrons. The first end of the filament is connected to the first filament post and the second end of the filament is connected to the second filament post. The first end of the filament is substantially vertically aligned with the second end of the filament when the filament is connected to the first and second posts.
Abstract:
Provided herein is an apparatus including a head over-coat and a depleted region in the head over-coat. A media over-coat is deposited in the depleted region. A near field transducer is adjacent to the head over-coat, wherein the near field transducer combusts the deposited media over-coat.
Abstract:
Methods of forming a magnetic storage disc, the method including depositing a carbon containing material on a magnetic recording layer to form a carbon containing layer, wherein the carbon containing layer is deposited using chemical vapor deposition, ion beam deposition, or filtered cathodic arc deposition; treating the carbon containing layer with a source of oxygen to form an oxygen layer; and depositing a lubricant on the oxygen layer.
Abstract:
An apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus includes a storage layer, a first write layer, and a second write layer. The first write layer is disposed over the storage layer. The second write layer is disposed over the first write layer. The anisotropy field and magnetization associated with the second write layer at writing temperature is greater than anisotropy field and magnetization associated with the first write layer at the writing temperature.

Abstract:
A device includes a housing unit and a number of magnets. The housing unit includes a number of holes therein. The magnets are positioned in the holes. The magnets have a same pole orientation. It is appreciated that the magnets are positioned in the holes to form a mechanically balanced and magnetically unbalanced structure.
