PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device which allows cooling such that an optical element which is an object element of cooling is set to a desired temperature, and allows efficient cooling and reduction of display unevenness. SOLUTION: The image display device includes a light source that emits an illumination light; a liquid crystal display panel 19, that constitutes an optical modulation element modulating the illumination light emitted from the light source, according to an image signal; a display information processing section 42, that performs light control processing for adjusting the quantity of the illuminating light made incident on the optical modulation element, and extension processing of the image signal, corresponding to the light control processing by analyzing the image signal; and a cooling mechanism 31, that supplies cooling air to the optical element which is the element of object of cooling. The speed of the cooling air to be supplied to the optical element is controlled, according to the quantity of the illuminating light, adjusted by the light control processing in the display information processing section 42. SOLUTION: The projector 1 includes an illuminating device 100; a first image forming means (first image forming unit 100) that emits first image light; a second image forming means (second image forming unit 200) that emits second image light; a polarization/composition optical system (polarizing/compositing prism 50); and a projection optical system 60. The first image forming unit 100 and the second image forming unit 200 are disposed movable on the same plane, in a direction perpendicular to each other within a prescribed extent. The personal computer 2 performs the common image correction processing complying with the characteristics common to each projector with respect to an inputted image source, and generates the image data for outputting. The projectors 3A and 3B perform the discrete image correction processing meeting the discrete characteristics to each of the projectors with respect to the image data transmitted by each USB cable. SOLUTION: A multi-projection system is a device for adjusting the light intensity of a superimposed region used in a multi-projection system that projects projected images from among a plurality of projectors on a screen, in such a manner that the superimposed region is formed among the projected images, projecting from neighboring projectors of the plurality of projectors.
