Abstract: In a cassette for use in a magnetic recording and/or reproducing apparatus, a housing contains rotatable reels on which a resiliently flexible tape is wound and the housing has an access opening extending along a side thereof through which the tape can be withdrawn for the recording and reproducing of signals thereon, guide members within the housing adjacent the opposite ends of the opening direct the tape between the reels in a path including a run extending along the opening and path portions extending from adjacent the ends of such opening tangentially to the outer turns of said tape wound on the respective reels, and at least one tape shifting member acts against a face of said tape in a respective one of the path portions. Each tape shifting member is mounted for movement in a course spaced from the adjacent guide member and is resiliently urged to a normal position in which the tape shifting member produces a bend in the related path portion between the respective guide member and reel so that turning of that reel in the tape unwinding direction enlarges the tape bend due to the resilient flexibility of the tape and transmission of the resulting slack in the tape to the tape run across the access opening is avoided. The tape shifting member is deflected from its normal position by the tape in response to a substantial tension in the latter for removing the bend from the respective path portion.

Abstract: A flexible disc cassette is provided with a shutter which is capable of opening/closing a head access hole and a pad insertion hole respectively formed in upper and lower halves thereof. A V-shaped torsion spring is used as the spring for biasing the shutter in the closed position. The lengths of the linear arm portions integrally formed with both sides of the coiled portion of the spring are approximately the same. Both tips of the arm portions are bent at approximately 90 DEG so as to form the L-shaped hooks which has the same length and which extend in the opposite directions along the height of the coiled portion. The L-shaped hooks are stopped by the shutter and the cassette case.

Abstract: A cassette casing for containing magnetic tape is formed from four parts comprising first and second substantially planar plastic panels 1b, 1c and first and second metal frames 1a, 1d engaging around the respective panels and assembled to each other e.g. by screws for disposing the panels in substantially parallel relation. Interengaging means 13, 20, and 12, 18 on the frames and panels are provided for limiting outward movement of the panels, as well as abutting reinforcing means 19 on the panels for preventing inward movement of the panels. Tape guide pins are carried by panel 1b as also are axles 15a, 15b on which guide rollers 16a, 16b are rotatably mounted. Tape reels 9a, 9b are aligned with bores 8a, 8b provided on both panels. The panels may be transparent and the metal frames may be manufactured by zinc die casting or may be of another metal, e.g. aluminium.

Abstract: A magnetic tape cassette includes a casing with a substantially straight side along which a peripheral wall has an opening for access to magnetic tape contained in the casing between its top and bottom walls which have edge portions projecting beyond the peripheral wall along the straight side, and a lid member having an elongated plate portion dimensioned to extend along the straight side of the casing and to fit closely between the projecting edge portions and ears projecting from opposite ends of the plate portion for disposition against respective end portions of the peripheral wall. Pivot pins are loosely received in respective, preferably triangular, apertures for connecting the ears of the lid member with the casing to permit pivoting of the lid member and its bodily displacement relative to the casing in directions at right angles to the pivoting axis. Thus, the lid member is movable, by a combination of the pivoting and bodily displacement thereof, between a closed position in which the plate portion is between the projecting edge portions at the straight side of the casing for closing the opening therein and an opened position in which the plate portion of the lid is disposed at the outside of the top or bottom wall of the casing adjacent the respective edge portion. Coil springs are connected between the casing and lid member of pivotally urging the latter to a neutral pivoted position in which the plate portion is centered between the projecting edge portions and bodily urging the lid member, in its neutral pivoted position, toward the straight side of the peripheral wall of the casing.
