Abstract: A data recording method in which serial data is recorded in blocks on a tape at a rate much higher than the data rate. Following recording (at 39) of a data block 40, tape motion is reversed (at 42) so that on recording of the next data block 40' the tape may be accelerated (45 to 38') to recording speed and the next data block recorded with a minimum gap between the blocks. The recorded data block is read and compared with the information which was recorded to verify operation of the recorded. The serial data is compared with a standard to verify validity.
