Abstract: A removable cartridge (200) having a housing (202, 204) and a recess formed therein in which is located a tang (208) of a cartridge mounting mechanism. The cartridge mounting mechanism provides for positioning of a disk assembly (220, 226) located within the removable cartridge (200) over a spindle motor (54) for mounting thereto. By recessing the tang (208) of the mounting mechanism, the overall height of the cartridge (200) is reduced. The removable cartridge (200) also includes a specially configured slot (256) for enhanced positioning of the removable cartridge relative to a disk drive.
