Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for aspirating and dispensing liquid samples. SOLUTION: The device (1) for aspirating and dispensing the liquid samples comprises a pump (2) and is provided with cylindrical chambers (3), pistons (4) movable in the cylindrical chambers, and a piston drive (5) engaged over the pistons. The device is additionally provided with pulse generators (6) implemented for creating pressure waves in liquids for dispensing the samples from the liquids, the cylindrical chambers (3) via a line (7), a first drive (9), a second drive (10), and tips (8) connected to the piston drive (5) implemented as the pulse generators (6). Such a device is provided with a channel (27) for discharging into the cylindrical chambers (3) for rinsing or washing the cylindrical chambers (3).
Abstract:
This invention provides methods and apparatus for performing microanalytic analyses and procedures, particularly miniaturized cell based assays. These methods are useful for performing a variety of cell-based assays, including drug candidate screening, life sciences research, and clinical and molecular diagnostics.

Abstract:
A device for receiving and releasing liquid samples comprises a pump consisting of a cylinder chamber (3), a plunger (4) and a plunger drive (5); an impulse generator (6); a tip (8) connected via a line (7) to the cylinder chamber; and a channel (27) for rinsing the chamber. The chamber opens out into the cylinder chamber. An Independent claim is also included for a system for receiving and releasing liquid samples comprising several of the above devices. Preferred Features: The chamber formed by the cylinder chamber, plunger, line and tip is filled with a liquid column with or without an air gap. The volume of a liquid sample released is defined by the parameters of a single impulse produced by the impulse generator. The cylinder chamber has a capacity of 5-200 micro-liters.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a device ( 1 ) for dispensing or aspirating/dispensing liquid samples, including a pump ( 2 ) and a micro-ejection device ( 3 ), the micro-ejection device ( 3 ) having a pulse generator ( 4 ) with a chamber ( 5 ). The pulse generator ( 4 ) is used to produce pressure waves in the liquid in order to cause the samples of a liquid to be dispensed. The micro-ejection device ( 3 ) also comprises an end piece ( 6 ) and a liquid line ( 7 ) which connects the pulse generator ( 4 ) to the end piece ( 6 ) the pulse generator comprises a micro-actuator ( 10 ) which is configured to function in the same direction as that in which the pressure wave leaves the chamber ( 5 ). The inventive devices are characterised in that the chamber ( 5 ), in the area of the end facing away from the end piece ( 6 ), or the corresponding connecting element ( 14 ) has a narrowed section ( 16 ) which restricts any expansion of the pressure waves in the direction of the pump ( 2 ). The invention also relates to systems with multiple devices of this type.
