    Abstract: A poly(oxypropylene) diamine (I) was treated with urea, PhNCO, HCO2H, or BzOH to prep. poly(oxypropylene)diureides or diamides which were used as additives to improve the thermal shock resistance of epoxy resins hardened with methyl-5-norbornene-2,3-dicarboxylic anhydride. Thus, 1980g I (mol. wt. 2000, 1.01 mequiv. HN2/g) and 180g urea were heated at 130oC-134≦̸C for 2 hr, treated with 990 g I during 3hr at 132oC, and heated at 134oC for 70min to prep. a diurea.

    Abstract: Epoxy resing are hardened with an adduct of the epoxy resin and Jeffamine D 230 BPA or Jeffamine D 400 BPA (aminopropyl derivs. of a polyoxypropylenepolyamine). The hardeners have low volatility and toxicity and give rapid hardening. The epoxy resins also contain Jeffamine BuD 2000 (bisureide of polyoxyalkylenepolyamine) which prevents embrittlement of the hardened resin. The resins are esp. useful as adhesives.

    Abstract: Epoxy resins with improved tensile strength and adhesion were prepd. by mixing epoxy resin, crosslinking agent and [R-NHCONH[CH(R1)CH2O n 2Z (R = H, C1-6 alkly, monocyclic, aryl; R1 = H, Me, Et; Z = (CH2)2-5; n = 2000-3000). Thus, a diureido-terminated polyether was prepd. by treating 500 g Jeffamine D2000(I) with 65 g urea 2 hr at 130-134oC. The crude product was stripped at 175-180oC and 2mnHg to give a viscous residuce contg. 1.64 % N. The residuce 5,3-aminopropylethylene diamine 12, and 4,4'-isopropylidenebisphenol diglycidly ether 100 parts were mixed to give a curable epoxy adhesive.

    Abstract: A process for the accelerated cure of an epoxy resin is disclosed. The resulting epoxy resin may be used in protective coatings, adhesives, seamless and terrazo flooring and caulking and sealing compositions. The resulting resin is also useful, for example, in casting, potting, in escapulating, grouting and patching. The process involves mixing an epoxy resin of the polyhydric phenol, polyglycidyl ether type with a curing agent comprising the reaction product of an epoxy resin with an excess of an aminoalkylene derivative of a polyoxyalkylenepolyamine.

    Abstract: The adhesion properties of amine-cured epoxy resins are enhanced by addition of certain polyether diureide additives in combination with specific amine curing agents. The adhesively superior epoxy resin composition comprises a vincinal polyepoxide, a curing amount of an aminopropyl ethylenediamine curing agent, and an effective amount of a polyether diureide having terminal ureido or monosubstituted ureido groups and a molecular weight of from about 2000 to about 3000.
