    Abstract: A sewage treatment unit for the disposal of aqueous waste sewage from a small installation such as a service station includes a primary settling zone receiving the sewage and separating raw sludge from the water. A first pump conveys the water to a storage zone and actuates a second pump which meters in hydrogen peroxide from a supply thereof into the storage zone to reduce the COD of the water. A pump forces the settled sludge to a coking zone where it is coked in the liquid phase. The coke thus formed then passes to a pressure settling device where it is separated from the coking effluent which is recycled to the storage zone.

    Abstract: The decomposition rate of polyolefin film used as an agricultural mulch is controlled by the incorporation therein of 3 to 20 percent of a cation exchanged sulfonated petroleum coke or cation exchanged wet air oxidized petroleum coke. The film also contributes ion exchange capacity to the soil, furnishes nutrients and improves the tilth of the soil. Other additives such as nematocides or fungicides can be incorporated in the film mulch.

    Abstract: Animal and dairy wastes are converted to deodorized coke suitable for use as fertilizer or soil conditioner, an aqueous odor-free effluent having low chemical oxygen demand and reduced phosphorus content and an odorless gas suitable for discharge to the atmosphere. The wastes are coked in the liquid phase under pressure to produce wet coke and a malodorous, gas-containing effluent high in chemical oxygen demand. The wet coke is treated with pressurized hot air to remove liquids therefrom and the air stream is mixed with the effluent and the mixture is oxidized, brought into heat exchange relationship with incoming wastes and then discharged.

    Abstract: A process for treating a waste feed stream containing essentially water-soluble organic wastes is described as involving heating the stream under turbulent flow conditions to temperatures of 400* to 700* F. and pressures of 300 to 3100 p.s.i. in the presence of air or of oxygen thereby splitting off carbon dioxide. The oxidized waste stream, which has a considerably reduced chemical oxygen demand, is continuously fed to a hot contacting zone and is in heat-exchange relationship with the incoming effluent stream.
