Abstract: A method and apparatus for sealing a fastener element. A structure may be positioned over a seal cap that has been adhered and sealed to the fastener element. A number of projections associated with the structure may be moved along an interface formed between the seal cap and an object in which the fastener element has been installed such that the number of projections removes at least a portion of excess material around the seal cap while moving along the interface between the seal cap and the object.

Abstract: A seal arrangement is provided for sealing an exposed edge of a composite laminate part having a fay surface configured to be joined to a structure. The seal arrangement includes a precured edge seal covering the exposed edge and a cover covering the edge seal. A seal bead located within a recess in the fay surface of the part forms a seal between the part and the structure.

The sealant containment assembly includes at least one sealant containment member that is configured to sealingly engage peripheral portions of components. The sealant containment member(s) is configured to form a sealing chamber around at least a portion of the fastener pattern. Fluid sealant is configured to flow into the sealing chamber and cure to seal fasteners within the fastener pattern that connect the components together.

Abstract: A dry bay sealing assembly is provided that includes a first end plate and a second end plate that are configured to be disposed on respective opposite first and second sides of a structural member proximate to a joint defined between the structural member and a fitting. The first end plate and the second end plate are configured to define an interior volume therebetween containing at least a portion of a fastener joining the structural member and the fitting. The first end plate and the second end plate are configured to cooperate with the structural member to seal the interior volume from an exterior volume.

The disclosed seal takes the form of a pre-cured, partially hollow elongate member that does not subtend a complete circle, but rather leaves an elongate gap in the member that can be placed over an edge or fillet of a fuel cell. In some cases, chambers within the member may be filled with wet sealant to provide redundant protection against EME effects.
