Abstract: A coin collecting mechanism having a coin storage chute and a refund chute. Coin path selection is effected by an electromechanically operated ramp mechanism under control of a coin validator so that in the unpowered state automatic refund of inserted coins occurs. Two methods of emptying the coin storage chute are disclosed; a single pin system used with a square ledge stop and a dual pin system for use with a "V" ledge stop. A rubbish rejection channel is also included so that such items as match sticks, lollipop sticks and small coins or tokens cannot enter the system and cause the mechanism to jam.

Abstract: A coin collecting box for insertion between a telephone instrument (1) and a line (2,2') to a telephone exchange includes a validator (7) and a dial pulse detector (9) which provide respective signals to a control circuit (8) which may be a microprocessor. The control circuit (8) determines from signals on the line from the telephone (1) whether the call is permitted. If the call is not permitted the control (8) causes a switch (5) to interrupt the connection to the line (2). A key operated switch (15) provides signals to the control circuit (8) which cause that circuit to permit any calls from the associated telephone (1).

Abstract: To reduce wear on the electrical contact-making surfaces of cooperating plug and socket connector contacts (5, 3) the contact pressure is made as light as possible, consistent with good electrical contact, and an extra member or finger (4) is provided on each socket contact (1) which bears on an area of the respective plug contact (5) not utilised for electrical connection with sufficient pressure to provide the required mechanical resistance to separation of the plug and socket connectors (7, 6). Where the plug contacts (5) are square-section pins the extra finger (4) of a socket contact may bear on a face of the respective pin which is transverse to the faces normally utilised for electrical connection.

Abstract: To reduce wear on the contact area of contacts of an electrical connector assembly each of the contacts of a male connector of the assembly is provided with a displacement member which is arranged to cooperate with respective contact members of a corresponding female connector of the assembly to displace the contact members during mating of the connectors. In a particular embodiment a printed circuit board (2) carries an attachment in the form of a comb which attachment has a plurality of displacement members (8) respectively arranged to lie alongside printed contact areas (9) of the printed circuit board(2). In use a part (7) of each contact member of a female connector rides up a forward ramp of the respective displacement member (8) travels along a plateau and rides down a rearward ramp after the leading edge of the printed circuit board (2) has passed over the contact area of the respective female contact. Preferably electrical contact between the female contact and the contact area (9) of the printed circuit board (2) is permitted afterthe leading edge has passed overthe contact area but before completion of mating of the printed circuit board (2) to the female connector so as to assist the removal of any film or debris in the respective contact areas.
